"The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge." Proverbs 14:18
I had the opportunity to speak to a group of students yesterday on the importance of mastering the fundamental concepts of a particular field of study. I had a statement that I tried to center the lecture around: “You will be who you are becoming”. This is a powerful dose of reality for individuals who are willing to accept it. The idea behind the statement is that your harvest in the future will never exceed your sowing in the present. For the students yesterday, this meant that the things they were ignoring right now, would not magically address themselves in the future. It is only through great effort, that anything truly great is ever produced.
As we consider our verse today, I want to see it in the same light. “You will be who you are becoming.” Are you immersing your mind and life with foolishness and the Worlds system of thinking? If so, you will inherit foolishness and Worldliness in the future. However, the encouragement of this verse is just as powerful as the down side. If you immerse your mind and life with wisdom and Godly influences, you will be crowned with Knowledge. Who are you becoming today?
