"The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going." Proverbs 14:15
How do you know if you are growing in wisdom? We have a good starting point in our verse this morning. The simple (fool) believes everything he hears. If something is said to be good, the fool doesn’t give it another thought; they are all in. The simple, lack the ability to ask themselves questions about situations or circumstances. The questions are lacking because they have not established or thought through defined categories of right and wrong. There is no filter through which their thoughts are established, and because of this lack of discernment, they believe whatever they hear. Is it any surprise that the most common answer to the question “What were you thinking?” is “I don’t know”?
However, the prudent man (wisdom) carefully considers his way. This man has a filter through which his thoughts might be tested to see if they are right or wrong. He doesn’t believe everything he hears, but instead he tries it against the Word of Truth. The prudent man, has spent time in God’s Word, and is looking to it to be a lamp unto his feet. Where are you looking?
