“The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.” Proverbs 14:11

While remaining with the familiar theme of the big picture results of our lives, Solomon uses a fascinating illustration. He contrasts a house (permanent dwelling, solid structure) with a tent (temporary dwelling, low stability). Yet, he seems to get the terms mixed up! He places the house with the wicked, and the tent with the righteous. The tent flourishes, and the house is destroyed! I think Solomon is referring to appearances and how we interpret life. For example:

- An individual in an unhappy marriage. Committing to the humbling, excruciating self-denying work of rebuilding through God’s word might seem uncertain and unstable (a tent) while getting out and starting over would seem to be the prevailing solid advice (a house).
