"The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit." Proverbs 14:8
We come to a sobering passage today. Solomon tells us that those who are wise use discernment to consider their actions: however, fools are deceived by their own foolishness. The sobering part of this passage is the fact that fools, those who refuse to get wisdom, are in a state of blind self-destruction. This reminds me of that chilling phrase we read in Judges: and the people did what was right in their own eyes. They didn’t consider their actions in light of God’s word; they simply did what they thought sounded good to them.
However, the individual who has wisdom has the ability to use discernment when it comes to making decisions. Isn’t it wonderful that God has given us a way to escape our own foolishness? While the world may portray wisdom as a damper on life’s pleasures, isn’t is a mercy from God to be able to avoid self- destruction? I will end with Proverbs 16:16(CSB): Get wisdom-- how much better it is than gold! And get understanding-- it is preferable to silver.
