"A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth." Proverbs 14:6
According to our text this morning, there are some people who just never learn. The individual category under consideration is the scorner. A scorner is someone who is full of pride, and is particularly identified as resistant to all rebuke. Proverbs 9:8 goes so far as to say that the scorner hates the one who rebukes him. We should stop here and ask ourselves the question, how do I deal with constructive criticism? When I am confronted with Biblical Truth, how do I respond? When was the last time you acknowledged and embraced the fact that you were wrong? We should make clear that “the scorner” is a type of attitude that we are all capable of embracing. No one is stuck living the life of a scorner outside of their choosing to do so. The sad thing about a scorner is that in striving to always appear wise, they completely cut themselves off from wisdom. Where are you today?
