“Good understanding giveth favor: but the way of transgressors is hard.” Proverbs 13:15

No commentary is necessary to explain the meaning of these words. The concept is clear and unambiguous – the way of the transgressor is hard. Why then, with such an easily understood message, is the way of the transgressor not more studiously avoided? The struggle is not to understand, but to believe God’s words. The way of the transgressor is hard. The road is broad, and it is inviting. Many travel this road. It seems to offer fellowship, laughter, and never-ending pleasure. But in reality, it is a hard road. It is hard because it does not provide a place of rest for the soul. While the flesh may relish the pleasures of this road, the soul is left parched and thirsty. At the end of this road is loneliness and despair. Oh, that God would imprint this truth upon our hearts and minds this day. That He would grant us to look with eyes by faith on the way of the transgressor, to see past the lights and the allure, and to see the end of the way. With the same eye of faith, we are enabled to look to a narrow way, a path with briers and thorns, but a road that leads to life and favor.
