"There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief." Proverbs 12:21
At face value, this verse seems to be saying that the just never have problems. If you have lived very long, you know that this is simply not the case. However, the truth that this verse is conveying is the fact that in the lives of the just, nothing that happens ends in ultimate evil. We usually think about this truth in light of Romans 8:28, where we learn that God is working every event that comes into our lives for our good. 2 Corinthians 4:17 also speaks to this, as it states that our light affliction is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. What a comfort to know that God is working all of the events that come into your life for your good. While we do experience pain and sorrow, it is momentarily and will soon be forgotten when Christ has completed His work in us. In our trials, may we comfort ourselves with the precious promises of God that continue to remind us of His goodness and faithfulness to His children in every circumstance.
