“Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellers of peace is joy.” Proverbs 12:20
Consumer protection is a term used to describe efforts to look beyond the big claims of the advertisement. The design is to find out the real truth. Will this product really provide what is promised? Proverbs serves as sort of a consumer protection agency for the soul. The person who lusts for evil will eventually be revealed to be deceitful, untrustworthy. He is only concerned about whatever it is he wants and will use any means at his disposal. Contrasted to this man is the counselor of peace. He is defined not by his accomplishments but by his investment in the good of others. He emulates Christ by looking not on his own things, but on the things of others. The end result of his efforts is joy – the joy his selflessness brings to others and the lasting joy in his own heart. As a wise protector, God filters through the false promise of self-focus to point us to true joy. Will you believe God, or will you fall for the advertisement?
