This verse again reminds us that God knows our hearts. We are given a comparison/contrast here between a heart that God delights in and a heart that is disgusting to God. Since the word forwardness is no longer in use in our society, we should take a closer look as to the meaning of this word. To be forward, simply means to be twisted, distorted, crooked, perverse or perverted. This is a very general word that covers various areas of a wicked heart. When we look at the contrast, forward is contrasted with upright. What is your heart pursuing today? Are you pursuing a life that denies your flesh and submits to God? If not, your heart (life) is disgusting to God. You may have everyone else fooled including yourself, but when God looks at you, He sees who you really are. On the flip side of the coin, God delights in those who are upright. At first glance we might be tempted to think that God must not be delighted in anyone. However, this is not saying that unless you are perfect, you are disgusting to God. If you are washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, and pursuing a humble walk with him, God delights in you. You are not wasting your time if you are pursuing a godly walk.
