"Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Proverbs 11:14b
Yesterday we considered whether or not we were receiving wise guidance or advice from those whom we have set up as our counselors. Today I would like you to consider whether or not you are providing good counsel to those who are under your influence. How do you determine what direction you will advise an individual to take? What do you look to for day to day wisdom? The truth is, many of us act on and dispense advice that is not Biblical. We become influenced by individuals we consider trustworthy and assume that their common sense approach to life is Biblical. This is not always the case, we must take our “wisdom” back to the Bible and test it to see is it is truly wise. Another pit fall we can fall into is giving advice based solely on our own experience. Sometimes we can mistake God’s mercy for wisdom. Just because we experience good results from a course of action in our own lives, doesn’t necessarily make our past actions wise. Again we must hold our thoughts and assumptions up in light of scripture and not assume based on experience that they are Biblical. Those who are surrounded by godly guidance and advice, find safety. Are those who look to you for guidance safe?
