"When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth." Proverbs 11:7
The object of hope is the main topic of this verse. The wicked have an expectation that has been formed through the object of their hope. What are you hoping in today? Many expect that when they die they will find favor with God. This is not because they have submitted to Him, neither are they concerned with God’s kingdom or the righteousness of Jesus Christ, but in the end they believe God will see their good intentions and pardon their sins. The expectation of these people will perish the day they find out they have put their hopes in an idol or manufactured god that never existed in reality. We may also have our hopes perish if we believe that we will indulge in sin and escape the consequences. We are so quick to believe that God is a liar. The idea that He will let us flood our souls with sin and not bring our rebellion to light is false. We might also believe that God would not allow us to suffer the consequences for our choices. Again if we place our expectations in these false hopes, we shall wake up one day to discover that Proverbs 11:7 is true.
