Comfort ye my people (Isa 40 v1)
OF COMFORT
"Everlasting consolation" is our heritage; not comfort for a day, but for a lifetime; nay, for ever. God's desire in behalf of his own is that they should be comforted. Though in heaviness through manifold temptations, they are yet supplied and sustained with Divine consolation, which never fails. It is "consolation in Christ" and there is no sorrow upon earth which will not yield to this. The things seen and temporal contain much to disquit; but the things unseen and eternal are full of comfort and rest. The less we dwell upon the former, and the more we meditate on the latter, the more will our consolation abound.
"Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God" (Isa Chpt 40 v1)
