Benny On The Bandwagon!

If you were to ask Benny Hinn, “What is the secret of your power?” high chances are he will point to his peculiar anointing, which he connects with Kathryn Kuhlman and Aimee Semple McPherson, founder of the Foursquare Gospel Church.

He claims to have first felt the “full power of the Holy Spirit” on him at a Kuhlman healing service in 1973 - and her mantle has presumably fallen upon Hinn. He conducts his meetings almost exactly like hers - though it takes Hinn much longer to get his audience into the expectant mood that seems to generate psychosomatic “miracles.”

In a 7 April, 1991 sermon, Hinn revealed that he periodically visits Kuhlman’s grave and that he is one of the few with a key to gain access to it. He also visits Aimee’s grave, where he says: “I felt a terrific anointing ... I was shaking all over ... trembling under the power of God ... ‘Dear God,’ I said, ‘I feel the anointing.’ ... I believe the anointing has lingered over Aimee’s body.”

Actually, this is his latest means of attracting people to his broadcast ... he is able to communicate with the dead. He has said, “You may have a problem with this. I honestly don’t really care. I have walked in that supernatural world. I have seen things you will never be able to understand unless you’ve been in it. I have had individuals appear to me in my room, not only angels. I have seen sights in prayer, incredible sights.”

Again, speaking of Aimee Semple Macpherson’s burial place, Hinn declares, “They’re going to come with me. You, you, you, gonna feel the anointing at Amy’s tomb. It’s incredible. And Katherine’s. It’s amazing. I have heard of people healed when they visit that tomb. They were totally healed by God’s power. You say, ‘What a crazy thing!’”

It is worse than merely being “a crazy thing!” It is something we would more readily associate with Roman Catholicism - or pagan religion. It is necromancy. And the Holy Scriptures plainly declares that we are to avoid these things (Leviticus 19:31; 20:6, Deuteronomy 18:11, Isaiah 19:3; 8:19: “And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?”)!
