Dear Praying Friends: We do thank you for your faithful prayers. I want to thank you for your prayers as I went to the oral surgeon. He concurred that the tooth must be extracted, and did so today. He cut the tooth in half to avoid it breaking into pieces, and placed some sutures after the extraction. I am now waiting for the oozing to stop. I am on anti-platelet medications for my stents, and they can cause bleeding. I had to stop them until after the extraction is basically healed. I am glad that I cancelled our Bible Institute tonight. A real blessing - no charge! Thanks for your prayers!
We had a family tragedy this week, and would appreciate your prayers there as well. One of our nephews, Leif Stringham, the son of Liz’s younger brother, was involved in a collision with a truck while on a motorcycle. He has been in China for a number of years teaching English, and has a Chinese wife. He was instantly unconscious and barely breathing on his own when taken to the hospital. He stopped breathing and is on life support, and has a flat line EEG, so it is very unlikely that he can recover and function without a miracle from God. Liz’s brother lost his wife less than a year ago. He flew out with Leif’s older brother and Leif’s mother (they had divorced nearly 20 years ago) to China. They will probably discontinue life support very soon - it has been a number of days now. They were fortunate to have a number of neurologists and a neurosurgeon consult so Leif’s care has been very good. This is a tragic situation. The family will need many prayers in the future.
Sunny Point Building Project: The building process is moving forward. The floor is done. We need to enclose the two ends of the building just below the roof, and connect the plumbing. We hope to see doors and windows installed within a week. Then we will work on getting the electrical wiring and lights installed. We are right at the end of our finances at this time. Painting the church and a few other items will have to wait for more financial resources.
Three of us went to the Sunny Point church service last Sunday. I preached, told about the church building and gave a brief summary of the history of our various church buildings. Kalow Palata told a bit more, and invited the people to go look. A number of the ladies had not been at the site for months. A neighbor across from the church saw them as they went later in the day. They found the doorway nailed shut, and climbed in a window area (no windows yet...) The ladies cried out with pleasure, sang and prayed fervently. We do pray to be able to get into the building soon, and to get busy reaching the area for Christ, which is why we chose that location in the first place.
Andoe Kampoe: Liz and I went on Monday afternoon. It was fortunate that we did not go on Saturday afternoon, as there was a torrential rain and it would have been very difficult to visit. We had an hour long visit with a sweet mother of some teenage girls who have been coming. She had told our contact, Mauke, that she did not really understand anything in our previous visit. So I went very slowly, beginning with creation, then Adam and Eve and the fall, and then over God’s provision of a savior. I would pauze and have Mauke reinforce what I was saying in Srnanatongo in her native language, Saramaccan. After an hour, she said that she wanted to accept the Lord, and did so in her own mother tongue. We went over Christian growth, and hope to see her in church this coming Sunday.
Family plans: We plan to go to Moengo overnight Friday night to see Ethan and Kim and the grandchildren. Micah’s birthday will be celebrated on Friday night so that we can take that in as well. We love seeing them - I just don’t like the drive, which I consider dangerous as well as challenging avoiding the potholes and other obstacles en route.
Prayer requests:
- Our spiritual growth and walking in the Spirit
- Health and strength for the work
- Safety on the road
- Sunny Point church building to be completed until it is functional - and finances to be there
- Andoe Kampoe - to see a solid regular group of worshipers
- Independence of the churches completed
- Radio station approval for Moengo
- Liz’s brother’s family and Leif Stringham`
