Particular Redemption or Limited Atonement
Romans ch 8 v 29 For whom He did foreknow, (before the world began) He also did predestinate.... v 30: Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he als glorified.
This is when God predestined His chosen people before the world was created to be saved and redeemed through Christs' death on the cross through His blood.
Redemption meaning the cost of there sins were paid for on the cross specifically for them by Christ.
The perfect life they needed to live was fulfilled in Christs' life for them and credited to there account so they are one with Christ in His death He paying for there sin and one with Christ in His perfect life,this life imputed to them for the righteousness which is of God and qualifies them for heaven. This solid plan predestinated and accomplished by God for His people through His son. So no-one would be lost that He chose. All of Sovereign Grace. All of mercy.
Alternative is leaving all to mans free will which would give no assurance that anyone would be saved, in fact the opposite. The Bible says man is naturally dead in his sins and could not make a decision for God.Non seek God no not one (Rom)
