BLESSED JESUS, OUR REDEEMER TUNE TO "COME THOU FOUNT" 8.7.8.7. WORDS BY JIM BYRD
1. Bless-ed Jesus, our Redeemer, Saved us from eternal loss; For He bore our sins and sorrows, When He died upon the cross. Glad the tidings of salvation, All our sins on Him were laid; Trusting soul, O hear this message, Christ your debt has fully paid! 2. Look my soul, behold with wonder, See who died upon the tree! ‘Twas the Lord, the righteous Servant, Put to death to set us free. Mark the sacrifice appointed, Lamb of God for sinners slain; God in human flesh enduring, All our judgment, grief and pain.
3. Hear Him lift His voice in triumph, "It is finished." Praise His Name! Gone our guilt and our transgressions, He removed our sin and blame. Resurrected and ascended, Now He reigns upon His throne; Bless-ed Jesus, only Savior, Intercessor for His own. ________________________________________________________________________
"O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise Him, all ye people. For His merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD." (Psalm 117:1-2) ________________________________________________________________________
"GOING TO CHURCH"
What is "going to church?" That which I see on television and in most assemblies today is certainly repugnant to true worship. On one hand we have everything so beautiful: the robed choirs, the finery and the splendid "minister" who looks as if he just came from the beauty salon; and he speaks in such soothing tones that everyone leaves with a good feeling about himself instead of the Lord of all grace. Then we have the "holy-ghosters" who yell and run and clap and stomp their feet to the point of utter pandemonium at the urging of the "cheerleader" who excites them to absurd frenzy. That’s "going to church?" What is true worship? If we would worship GOD, we must worship Him in the knowledge of the truth (John 4:24). We must know something of ourselves, our depravity, sin, and inability (Matthew 15:19); something about God’s holy, righteous, sovereign character (Isaiah 45:20-25); something about the Person and work of Christ as our Surety, Substitute, Mediator and King (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 10:5-14); and something of the grace and power of God the Holy Spirit (John 6:63; Ephesians 1:13-14). True worship implies adoration, reverence and solemnity (Psalm 89:7). If we would worship GOD, we must worship Him with "reverence and godly fear" (Hebrews 12:28). Anything that calls attention to ourselves is out of place in true worship, whether it be outbursts of emotionalism or showy forms of dress. "Going to church" in a true sense is hearing from and worshiping God Almighty in the splendor, beauty and glory of His holy being, in the reverence of our hearts. It is to see the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ and to see the blood that was shed on the behalf of vile sinners, and to continually sing of His great redemption. I love to "Go to church" when true worship is there. –Jack Shanks ________________________________________________________________________
ELECTION - NO DETERRENT TO EVANGELISM
"Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved" (Romans 10:1). I rejoice to proclaim the truth that God, before the foundation of the world, chose a people in Jesus Christ unto salvation. It is also delightful to know that those ordained to eternal life will be confronted with the gospel and made to believe that gospel (2 Thessalonians 2:13-14; 1 Corinthians 1:21; Romans 10:13-17; Acts 13:48). A belief in God’s electing and predestinating grace which leads to a neglect of prayer, indifference toward the conversion of the lost, a lack of evangelistic zeal or an absence of missionary concern is not of the Lord! God has purposed the salvation of a multitude which no man can number, that is a glorious truth. Jesus Christ has redeemed those people and expiated their sins by His death and resurrection. It is equally true that those will be confronted with the true gospel, regenerated by the power of the Holy Spirit and be brought to repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus. The chosen and redeemed ones will be made to trust the Savior and rejoice in the work He already accomplished for them. God’s people will be made known, for as the gospel is proclaimed, it will come to them as good news by the power of the Holy Spirit. Seeing as how we do not know who the elect are we declare to sinners, "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31).
