It Is Finished Tune to "FROM EVERY STORMY WIND" LM Words by JIM BYRD
1. We bless the name of Christ the Lord, For through His blood we are restored; Redemption’s work was fully done, By Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son.
2. Each of the prophecies of old, Concerning Christ, by men foretold; They all are finished, for our God Upon this earth in flesh has trod.
3. No sacrifice on altars slain, Could wash away our guilt and stain; But Christ the Lamb for us has died, God with His work is satisfied.
4. This message brings us joy and cheer, Let all who trust Him never fear; "It’s finished," Christ the Savior cried, And by His blood we’re justified. ________________________________________________________________________
"The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: He maketh the devices of the people of none effect." (Psalm 33:10)
Praise the Lord for His Benefits "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits" (Psalm 103:2). It is a delightful and profitable occupation to mark the hand of God in the lives of ancient saints, and to observe His goodness in delivering them, His mercy in pardoning them and His faithfulness in keeping His covenant with them. But would it not be even more interesting and profitable for us to remark the hand of God in our own lives? Ought we not to look upon our own history as being at least as full of God, as full of His goodness and of His truth, as much a proof of His faithfulness and veracity, as the lives of any of the saints who have gone before? We do our Lord an injustice when we suppose that He wrought all His mighty acts, and showed Himself strong for those in the early time, but doth not perform wonders or lay bare His arm for the saints who are now upon the earth. Let us review our own lives. Surely in these we may discover some happy incidents, refreshing to ourselves and glorifying to our God. Have you had no deliverances? Have you passed through no rivers, supported by the divine presence? Have you walked through no fires unharmed? Have you had no manifestations? Have you had no choice favors? The God Who gave Solomon the desire of his heart, hath He never listened to you and answered your requests? That God of lavish bounty of whom David sang, "Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things" (Psalm 103:5), hath He never satiated you with fatness? Have you never been made to lie down in green pastures? Have you never been led by the still waters? Surely the goodness of God has been the same to us as to the saints of old. Let us, then, weave His mercies into song. Let us take the pure gold of thankfulness, and the jewels of praise and make them into another crown for the head of Jesus. Let our souls give forth music as sweet and as exhilarating as came from David’s harp, while we praise the Lord Whose mercy endureth forever. –C. H. Spurgeon
How to Read the Bible In the introduction to his Bible translation, first published in 1535, Myles Coverdale issued these words of wisdom. "It will greatly help you to understand scripture if you note, not only what is spoken and written, but of whom and to whom, with what words, at what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goes before and what follows." ________________________________________________________________________
The Successful Savior "He shall not fail nor be discouraged" (Isaiah 42:4). Is it possible that the omnipotent Savior might fail to accomplish His eternal purpose? Could He ordain something and then His decree be frustrated? The inspired prophet takes pen in hand and settles the issue once and for all: "He shall not fail." Failure is a human weakness; it does not belong to God our Savior. That which He eternally predestinated (all things), His providence brings to pass in time. "My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure" (Isaiah 46:10). Notice three things.
1. Christ did not fail to redeem all of God’s elect. In His life, death and resurrection He honored the law and made satisfaction to divine justice for the sins of His people. He died that God might be "a just God and a Savior."
2. Christ shall not fail to regenerate His chosen ones and bring them to believe the gospel. Though the flesh is enmity against God, though the world opposes the way of grace and though the Devil holds men captive by his will, the Lord’s people shall be confronted with the true gospel, quickened by the Spirit and drawn by effectual grace to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. "Thy people shall be willing in the day of Thy power..." (Psalm 110:3).
3. Christ shall not fail to preserve the elect and bring them all safely home to glory. "And this is the Father’s will which hath sent Me, that of all which He hath given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day" (John 6:39). ________________________________________________________________________
