Help for the troubled
I may be speaking to one troubled about his special malady. It seems to him anger; like a frown of God upon him. Well, I take up (let us say) Psa. 6:3, 'Thou, O Lord, how long?' (1) I pray him, helping him to cry thus. And perhaps I pray specially, that if there be any real ground for his suspicions as to God's frown, the sin may be made plain; for medicine is applied in vain so long as the arrow head is in the wound. (2) At the same time, I do not leave him thus, but bid him at all events fix his thoughts upon 'THOU LORD'. Think of the love of him who gave Christ; and then cry, 'How long?' Love must have great reasons for continuing to try you.
