"Morning" says Mr Slack as he sits down for breakfast." Good morning" says Mr Devotion." Why you look so well, so happy today" says Mr Slack, "oh" says he "I was so blessed in my devotion this morning, you?" "Oh, I have no time, busy at work must go soon." "Why" says Mr Devotion "you seem to have time for eating, television and talk," "must go now" says Slack, off he goes hurrying down the road. A peace seems to hang over Mr Devotion, as he clears the table and heads out doors.
Who's this coming towards him? Mr Put it off. "Morning" says Mr Devotion. "You know" said Mr Put It Off, "I went, I went to church on Sunday morning!", "Good" says Mr Devotion, "Sunday night?" "no, hope to next week", "and the prayer meeting tonight? hope to see you there" "sorry" says Mr Put It Off "I'm busy, I will another week", "oh" says Mr Devotion "is God only needed some weeks and not others by the church and its flock? Can we actually live without His power ever?" "Look your a devout man Mr Devotion, I am just a Christian. See you there one week."
Mr Devotion was sad though not surprised, he lived in a Land were the waters were lukewarm.(Rev. Ch 3v17) Though he himself drank of the river of life continually which flowed from the Zion city, underneath the ground and welled up unto eternal life in his heart and soul. From which he daily gained his joy, hope and peace. Oh everyone that thirsteth come ye to the waters and drink and live (Isaiah Ch.55v1).You may ask why then do not more drink of these waters, they are deep down and can only be found by those who's sins have been washed away and can then see, for sin blinds the eye. Why do not more come for cleansing? they do not want to leave sin city, they think to much of its pleasures. Though they be only for a short season.(Heb.Chp11v 25 )
Mr Clever once asked Mr Devotion how he can be in sin city yet not be part of it? My kingdom is not of this world-its called the kingdom of Light and ruled by The King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Sin city is part of the kingdom of Darkness. And ruled by dark and evil forces. Every citizen is ruled by sin. I am under the dominion of Grace sin has no dominion over me. Mr Clever felt a little taken back by this answer. "So you see" said Mr Devotion "its all of Gods grace I am no better than the next man. God called me and changed me and saved me. Took me out of that kingdom of darkness into His marvellous Light. Its not clever is it, to be ruled by dark forces you can't control, when Jesus calls you to come under His Lordship and rule. But this can only be done by the washing of water through His word .That is to repent and trust Christ only to save you. As many as shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.(Rom. Ch 10v13 ) Would you not agree this is a very intelligent thing to do? As we live in such a dark and evil world. The way of escape and its end the Heavenly City, were there's no sin or sadness forever."
Mr Clever says he is not sure, "what do you mean" says Mr Devotion, "is it the facts," "no" says he "I 'can't see the facts for the pleasures of sin blind me to them. I will not leave my sins. Yes, I know its very sad, your kingdom has chains that cannot be broken only by The Lion of Judah." Looking forward he noticed Mr Slack still climbing the hill before him, he seemed to take 3 steps forward and then slide 3 back, backslidden . Does much but gets nowhere in his quest to be busy, neglecting God.
We get nowhere in the Christian life if we neglect God. When arriving at work Mr Slack found many problems and temptations he could not handle. He was in shock. Lunch time he got his mobile and rang Mr Devotion. "You did not pray lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil, did you?" "No" says Slack, Mr Devotion says "that would have saved you. God can only empower us as we seek and find Him and his power daily. Manna for each day must be found and eaten. You did not seek Him so you did not find Him. You went off therefore in your own strength and God has shown you that you have none."
After coming off the phone Mr Devotion felt for Mr Slack and prayed for him, that God would warm his heart and the backslider would return in Gods mercy.
