Christian maturity

Are you acting your age?

You have no doubt seen young people around the age of 18 years old due to an accident or illness who have the mind of a 3 year old, very sad. They should be mature and enjoying life to the full.

How sad then when spiritually people who have been in the Christian life for many years but have the spiritual mind of an infant. This is sited in the Bible in more than one place, Lets look at one - the letter to the Corinthians, The apostle Paul wrote, he could only give them milk (spiritually infant food) they were not ready for meat (spiritually), but they should have been. How can we tell if we are spiritually mature? Have we grown much since conversion. Do we act our age spiritually? If converted for many years hearing many sermons and teachings, by God's grace we should have applied them, being obedient to them, this is the way to maturity. It is not the amount of extra sermons we see or hear on tv or the internet that make us mature but applying the teachings. The Corinthians still had lots of the flesh(worldlyness) in there lives though converted, have we? A Test!

1 Timothy chp 4 v 12 - Let no man despise thy youth, but be though an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Timothy was young in age yet mature in faith.1) He was to be an example in word-how he spoke, what he said, speaking the truth in love, speaking the Word of God in season and out of season. Not gossiping or being unkind in our words. 2) Conversation-our conduct in life, the way we live. 3) Charity -love, living a life of sacrificial love to people and concern for them daily, 4) spirit-inner spirit keeping it in a nice not nasty frame, not envying or causing strife like Corinthians were. 5) Living by faith. 6) Purity of life in such a way people can see clearly we live a holy life by Gods Grace.
