Call To Worship

Sovereign grace o'er sin abounding!
Ransomed souls, the tidings swell
‘Tis a deep that knows no sounding
Who its breadth or length can tell?

What from Christ that soul can sever
Bound by everlasting bands?
Once in Him, in Him forever
None can pluck thee from His hands.

Heirs of God, joint-heirs with Jesus
Long ere time its race begun
To His name eternal praises
O what wonders Christ hath done.

On such love, my soul shall ponder
Love so great, so rich, so free
Say, while lost in holy wonder
Why, O Lord, such love to me?

(Tune: "Jesus Calls Us")

Isaiah 3:10 "It shall be well with the righteous."

In spiritual things all your temptations, all your darkness, all your wanderings God will overrule. It shall be well with you. There shall never be a night, but that morning shall come; there shall never be a day of trouble, but a day of prosperity shall follow; there shall never be an emptying, but there shall be a filling; there shall never be a bringing down, but that He will raise you up again. Let it be darkness or light, sorrow or grief, night or day, life or death, time or eternity, "It shall be well with the righteous."

-Pastor Scott Richardson

Saving faith is not based upon one's feelings but upon God's faithfulness. It is able to embrace and rejoice in the promises of God. It needs no evidence or proof, only a word from the living God; being "fully persuaded that what God has promised, He is able also to perform" (Romans 4:21); and realizing that the only difference between God's faithful promise and its perfect fulfillment is just a bit of time....His appointed time!

~Pastor Maurice Montgomery

BY NATURE

~Chris Cunningham

Eph 2:3 "and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others."

People do not so much object to being called sinners as long as this is to be understood in reference to their deeds. Most will at least admit that they have done wrong things and are therefore sinners, but no one believes that they are sinners and therefore they do wrong things. The difference is night and day.

People love to be preached to about their sins and told to quit smoking, drinking, cussing, be kind to their neighbor, tithe, go to church, etc. because at least when they are able to manage these outward things, they can feel good about themselves. If I am only a sinner because I do bad things, then there is hope of reformation. Behavior, men believe, can be improved, or at least my good deeds can outweigh my bad (in my own opinion or that of other men). Even this is impossible, since what we consider good deeds are filthy rags to God, but at least men can fool themselves in this way.

If, however, sin is my very nature, then no matter how nice I am to my neighbor, no matter how perfect my church attendance, no matter how much I put in the plate or avoid the vices of life, I am repulsive, unacceptable, undone, filthy, stinking, and despicable in God's sight. Men hate this truth of a sin nature, because there is nothing they can do about it "Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots?" Jer 13:23 This truth shuts men up entirely to sovereign mercy in the sin-atoning blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

A well-behaved maggot is not welcome in my bosom for all his virtues, nor is a well-behaved sinner (even if there were such a thing) fit company for God Almighty. We must be utterly changed, "born again," given a new nature and even a deranged sinner cannot convince himself that this is something he can do. That is why this doctrine is so vehemently rejected. We have one hope. MERCY! MERCY! MERCY!

"Lord, now indeed I find, Thy power and Thine alone, Can change the leper's spots and melt the heart of stone."
