Dear Praying Friends:This has been an incredible but remarkably busy two weeks. I made the error of double scheduling four days last week, which would have been fine for ordinary meetings, but not for teaching missions. It means teaching in the morning one place, and then in the evening at another. Since we are revising some of our material, and Liz has been correcting all the material, it has not given us much time to do things, and we left early and arrived home about 11 pm.
To back up, last week we went to Indianapolis and stayed at a prophet's chamber of Indiana Baptist College over the weekend. The following morning we went to Victory Baptist Church, just a short distance south of the college. We had a very good service there as well as teaching soulwinning in the Sunday school hour. After a delicious meal at a Japanese restaurant with the Felbers, we went to Crosspointe Baptist Church for the evening service with Pastor Rick Arrowood. Both churches have been in new facilities recently, and the facilities have been a blessing with growth in the churches. Crosspointe Baptist Church facilities had been previously used for secular purposes. It did not resemble a church so much on the outside, but has been beautifully furnished inside. We had a good service there as well, and greatly enjoyed fellowship afterwards.
The following morning I preached at chapel at Indiana Baptist College. The college seems to be growing again, and we enjoyed the service, as well as meeting several members of the staff, some of whom I knew previously. I would have liked to stay longer, but we had to get back to New Paris for the evening teaching session.
The following morning we went to Believer's Baptist Church in Warsaw, where I preached in chapel for Hepzibah House. We had a good time of a meal and fellowship with Pastor Don Williams and his delightful family. One of the big surprises was that the family sang for us before we left - beautifully, leaving me with watering eyes. Then back to New Paris.
Wednesday we had a "free day." We were able to catch up on a number of things and went to see family. Afterwards, we were able to attend Emmanuel Baptist Church in Niles, Michigan, and enjoy listening to Pastor Brad Lomax. It was great to hear about how the Lord is blessing there, as well as renewing fellowship with several old friends whom we had not seen for quite a time.
Thursday and Friday we had the joy of returning to Fairhaven Baptist College. I taught in the Christian education class for two days as well as an afternoon missions class on Thursday. We always enjoy our time there, and have many friends. We met several missionaries back on furlough while we were there. We had a nice visit with our daughter on Friday after lunch as well. Then we headed back to New Paris.
Our second week at Fundamental Independent Baptist College went quite well. Two of the church staff there recorded every session. They recorded my voice and also put a video on DVD "on the fly." Dr. Haifley plans to put everything together in a packet to be available for purchase. We were able to cover about 75% of the material that I had hoped to cover. I was very pleased with the students. They listened, they learned, and they did very well on their daily quizzes. We are still waiting on the results of the final exams which they will do this week. I left the exam questions along with an answer key and the school will proctor the exam.
Saturday we packed up and started a five week tour. Late in the day we drove west and stayed overnight at the home of a delightful family in New Lenox, Illinois. The following morning we attended Sunday school at Heritage Baptist Church in Frankfort, Illinois and preached in the morning service. We had a nice lunch with Pastor Jones and his wife, along with several church members. Our time there was very enjoyable. We had to leave at 2:30 pm to drive to Falls Baptist Church where we started teaching a missions module again today for two weeks. We have had a delightful time today with the students, and Liz will be giving a devotional to some of the young ladies tonight.
With the busy schedule, I have not had much time to do corrections on the Sranantongo commentary. Please pray for that.
Prayer requests:
- Special strength and health for this busy time
- Safety on the road
- Our spiritual growth during this time
- Our teaching module - that God will bless, the students will learn, and we can work out all the necessary details to set up an ongoing program for the future.
- The churches in Suriname - for growth in the national leadership especially, and that the nationalization of the churches will improve
- Completing the corrections of the Sranantongo New Testament Commentary
