Dear Praying Friends:Traveling mercies: Greetings from Webster, New York (outside Rochester). We are enjoying the hospitality of John and Nancy Van Hooydonk. We have known them since my wife and Nancy were in nursing school together. In fact, two other classmates and their spouses were also with us today for a get-together. We had a very nice time.
We will back up several days. We had a good trip to Bensalem, Pennsylvania where we were hosted by Pastor Bruce Love. We actually stayed in a motel two days, had an excellent service, and then on Thursday we drove to Liz's sister Joanna Tsuyuki. Joanna had done the layout for the original Bible in Sranantongo, and now she is laying out the Bible Commentary in Sranantongo for the entire New Testament, which is about 813 pages long. Her layout is now approved by First Bible International and I am busy reviewing it. I would appreciate your prayers for that.
Last weekend we had an excellent time at Truth Baptist Church with Pastor Bim Rowley, where we stayed the entire weekend. We then traveled to Pioneer Valley Baptist Church in Westfield, Massachusetts, where we stayed in their comfortable prophet's chamber until Friday morning. We had a good service at Pioneer Valley Baptist Church on Tuesday night, and at Faith Baptist Church in Florence, Mass. on Wednesday night with Pastor Ross Gould.
Friday morning we drove to New England Baptist College, where we were privileged to preach in chapel, and to teach a class on missions following chapel. After a very nice meal with Pastor Jim Townsley, we drove to Webster, New York last night.
We would appreciate your prayers as we will be in two churches in the area of Rochester tomorrow, and then have a long 540 mile drive back to our base in South Bend. Next week we will begin our first block course at Indiana Fundamental Baptist College - our first experience teaching block courses.
News from Suriname: We were pleased to hear that the situation we asked you to pray about seems to be at least temporarily resolved. The other leadership has filled in the programs for the man who was asked to step down temporarily, and things at the church seem to have settled down. Thanks for your prayers.
Special request: I need to review and correct the Bible commentary on the New Testament. This job has had to replace working on learning the Mac programs at this time. I also need to review each lesson for the block course before teaching it. Thus I have a busy schedule, and pray for working effectively.
Other requests: We have had contact with a few people who have expressed interest in missions. Please join us in prayer that we may be a help and encouragement to them. This is, of course, one of the reasons we are in the USA, and we do pray for fruit that remains.
A small request for a large dog: Many of you know that we have three German shepherd watchdogs for safety. The oldest, Smokey, has had an attack of worms in his back. We are praying for a cure.
Prayer requests:
- Safety and strength while traveling
- Our spiritual growth
- Health and strength for the tasks at hand
- Teaching classes on missions this week
- Preaching and teaching in colleges
- Correcting the new Sranantongo New Testament commentary
- Seeing saints encouraged, students strengthened, and future missionaries called.
In Him and Content:
