Dear Praying FriendsWe cherish your prayers for us, especially as we travel. We had a delightful time in Eaton last week. We presented at First Baptist Church of Eaton on Sunday night, and remained there the entire week. We presented at Eaton Baptist Temple on Wednesday night. Both pastors have been at their churches close to 40 years. Both are very mission minded, and very gracious. We were able to get caught up on a number of items, and then went to Waverly, Ohio where we stayed with our good friends the Hanes. We were Liberty Baptist Church in Chillecothe on Sunday AM and Waverly Baptist Temple in the evening. The morning service was the end of their vacation Bible school, and there were several visitors, so I preached a straightforward salvation message. We had good fellowship at both locations.
On Monday, we wanted to thank the personnel who had cared for Mom Patton until her death. We stopped to pick up a dozen donuts and enclosed a thank you note and several salvation tracts. We met the nurse who had cared for Mom Patton the most. She gave us a big hug, and we had a short but good conversation. We had an afternoon with a number of the Hanes' friends from church. They had invited them over for a delicious meal. Yesterday was a long drive (about 540 miles) to Bensalem, Pa - which is in the southeastern edge of Philadelphia. We will be presenting at Bensalem Baptist Church tonight.
Special prayer request: I had mentioned a young leader in the main church who had created problems on our departure. Unfortunately his attitude has been poor, and he denies any wrong. He is studying in the direction of law, and told the leadership that they would lose a case in court. It is sad that he fails to recognize that we are in a church striving for harmony, rather than legal rights. Sometimes we must be willing to give over some of our "rights" for the benefit of others. And Paul had something to say about taking believers to court, as well as holding onto rights instead of yielding them for the general good. So they found it necessary to remove him from the leadership as well as his major responsibilities in the church until he shows repentance.
From what I could put together from phone calls, I believe that the leadership had no other choice. I am pleased that they were willing to take a stand and institute discipline. I was also pleased that there was no sense of wanting revenge, but distress that the young man would not change. Please pray with us for a complete change in attitude, and for true unity and purity within the church.
Commentary: My sister-in-law Joanna Tsuyuki has completed the general setup for the commentary on the New Testament - it will be about 820 pages long. We are waiting for a review by First Bible concerning printing it. Join us in prayer for that as well.
Learning the mac programs: I am making slow progress on Final Cut Express, a program for making videos. I also need to master the general way to use a Mac computer, and three basic programs: Word for mac (I have been using WordPerfect), PowerPoint for Mac, and Keynote, which is the Mac program for projecting slides. With these programs, coupled with an audio input, I should be able to make DVD's of our teaching programs. I would also like to learn Pages, which is the Mac program for printing newsletters, etc. I would greatly appreciate your prayers!
