Hebrews 13: 15: By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Notice it does not say to offer the sacrifice of praise to God sometimes, but continually. When the Lord Jesus Christ said, But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, the word is "continually." (Mt 6: 33.) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (v8) Our God does not change therefore he shall never remove his gift of free grace and consume us in his wrath no matter the case with us poor sons of Jacob (Mal 3: 6.) He may reprove us for our iniquity but he never ceases being our Advocate with the Father and all our acceptance with God (I Joh 2: 1-2.) Therefore whether we are sick or in health, poor or have wealth, happy or sad let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually.
In 1871 after the Chicago fire, Horatio Spafford, sent his family to Europe, planning to meet them there later. Halfway across the Atlantic their ship was struck by another vessel and Mrs. Spafford saw her 4 daughters drown in the cold, current of the ocean. She was knocked unconscious but landed on a piece of wood and thereby God spared her life. She sent a message to her husband, "Saved alone."
Mr. Spafford immediately took a ship to meet her. As he travelled with an ache in his heart and tears in his eyes when he reached the spot where his four daughters had drowned the Lord gave him these words:
When peace like a river attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot
Thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well with my soul
Though Satan should buffet,
Though trials should come
Let this blessed assurance control
That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate
And hath shed his own blood for my soul
But Lord, tis for thee, for thy coming we wait
The sky, not the grave, is our goal
O Trump of the angel!
O voice of the Lord!
Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!
Then, believer, after you have offered up the fruit of your lips, having thanked God FOR CHRIST BY CHRIST, then thank him again for giving you the heart to offer up such praise and thanksgiving because he says: I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him (Is 57:19.)
