Prayer For The Local Area:
Clapham
We praise God for a number of conversions amongst our older younger people. Please pray that the Christianity Explored course for youth will be a blessing to those who take part and lead it. We have had three new members join us recently who have already made a big impact in the life of the church. Our lack of a pianist is hindering the quality of our worship, please pray that someone may come to help in this ministry.'
Prayer For The Wider Area:
Politician's wife gets behind Christian ministry in Guatemala
The wife of Guatemala City's mayor has teamed up with Orphan Outreach to provide a biblically-based education to the city's poorest children.
Patricia Arzú, wife of Guatemala City's mayor, Alvaro Arzú, grew concerned about the spiritual condition of the people of Guatemala. In 1996, using her position as First Lady when her husband was president of Guatemala, Arzu decided to bring biblical education into schools-even the public municipal schools.
She runs three schools through her foundation. For preschoolers (Los Patitos), school age girls (Las Rosas), and school-age boys (Los Cedros.)
These schools serve the children who live on the outskirts of Guatemala City. Many are so poor that they are literally naked and living in the dumps.
In each clean, brightly-decorated school, the children gather each morning to bathe and put on clean uniforms, which staffers have freshly laundered on school grounds.
Orphan Outreach works with preschool education, early intervention support and evangelism, where they become the hands and feet of Christ. Their work dovetails into the passion Arzu has shown for over a decade.
The Bible serves as curriculum, with classes for teachers as well as students. In support of her vision, Orphan Outreach and a team of 60 women recently visited the schools and brought with them hope in the form of school supplies.
Bright Hope serves widows in Uganda
Sharing common bonds of loss, disease, poverty and fear, approximately 100 women formed a community in the jungles of northern Uganda.
Known as Apac, these remote jungles are home to HIV-positive widows struggling to provide for their children and grandchildren on limited or no income.
Bright Hope is providing encouragement through micro loans that will help the women start small farming and sewing projects to generate income. Many of the women lost their husbands to war, disease, or AIDS and were forced to take shelter in refugee camps after fleeing from a violent group known as the Lord's Resistance Army. Most live in small mud huts, and their children are in need of food, clothing and shelter.
Eagle's Nest Ministries, a Bright Hope branch in Uganda, shares the love of Jesus Christ to the people of Uganda through education, relief, community support and church planting. Gifts for these women will go toward the micro loans.
