GRACE BEFORE GRACE

Before Noah's salvation in the ark is revealed, before Noah's character is revealed, the grace of God is first revealed. Let it always be clear that the grace of God precedes all that God has done for us, and all that He will do in us, in salvation. (Genesis 6:8)

When we, by God's grace, are wise enough to face death, judgment, and eternity, things are seen in their proper light. All these fine ideas of fame, fortune, friends, and so-called importance, melt like the frost before the sun. Death reveals the truth, blows away the chaff, shuts a man's mouth, and opens the book. Death takes no notice of what I thought or of what others thought of me, but only what God thinks! "Oh, that I might win Christ and be found in Him!"

To worship God in the Spirit is to worship without the use of idolatrous images and rituals. It is a heart worship of the living God. Yet, it is much more than that. It is worshipping God in the power of and under the influence of the Holy Spirit. True worship is born in the heart by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the Word of God, revealing Christ in us; and He causes us to worship God. It is the Spirit of Christ in the heart that produces all characteristics of true worship: humility, faith, repentance, submission, adoration, and obedience to God

THE TEACHING OF GRACE

"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world."

- Titus 2:11-12

There are many things God's grace teaches us. In Titus 2:11-12 God's grace is said to teach us how to live in this present world. The implication is that if we are not living like this we obviously have not been taught by His grace, and are living in rebellion. And what does it teach us regarding living in this present world? That we are to deny (renounce)....ungodliness (the opposite of devotion to God), and worldly lusts (the desire of fallen human nature), and to live soberly (self-controlled, self-restraint, not controlled by the passions of the flesh), righteously (upright), and godly (well devout, a godward attitude) in this present world. Our prayer is that God by His grace will teach us how to live in this present world in a way that adorns the Gospel of His Son! God did from his. "Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief." (Hebrews 4:9-11)

PITCH IT WITHIN AND WITHOUT

"Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch." (Genesis 6:14)

As great as it was, without this pitch, the ark would have been nothing but a death trap. The word "pitch" can be translated, atonement; "it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul." It is the blood of Christ shed that justifies us and the blood of Christ applied that sanctifies us. The one thing that kept the wrath of God from entering the ark was not Noah's craftsmanship; it was the pitch within and without. The one thing that keeps the wrath of God from touching His people, is neither their faith nor their repentance; it is the blood of the Son of God within and without. "What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus..."
