Judgment Instead of Mercy Isaiah 8: 6: Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son; 7: Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks: Knowing that the grace of God is able to save in spite of the sinner's rebellion then why did God not pour out his grace upon king Ahaz? One reason is that by passing by Ahaz God shows all in whom he irresistably operates just how precious and distinguishing God's grace really is.
The apostle Paul says, Romans 9: 17: For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. 19: Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? 20: Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? 21: Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? The Lord Jesus said I did not come to condemn the world. He said that the man who does not believe is condemned already. But Christ came from Mt. Zion to save his people. His name shall be called Jesus for he shall save HIS PEOPLE from their sins.
Ahaz was hardened even more when he heard the message that salvation is in Immanuel and not by his hand because the natural heart rejoices in the power of 'self.' Ahaz saw nothing wrong with attempting to save himself.
Yet, the people in whom God works his power are made willing to believe God, to behold that grace is unmerited, that it is God's sovereign prerogative to be merciful to whomsoever he will be merciful and to those who are blind...sight is a marvelous thing...those who experience it are made to rejoice in Christ alone. And they thank God that his grace is distinguishing and all sufficient.
THE MOST DIFFICULT THING By Henry Mahan The most difficult thing for any of us to do is to TOTALLY and COMPLETELY trust and rest in our blessed Lord Jesus to redeem us, sanctify us, and make us accepted of the Father. We are so prone to self-righteousness and works that we have a constant battle trying to remember that "man at His BEST STATE is altogether vanity," and in his WEAKEST MOMENTS is no less loved and accepted if he is in Christ. As Bro. Fortner said, "My relationship with the eternal God (in Christ) does in great measure determine what I do. But what I do (good or bad) in no way determines my relationship with the eternal God." Actually, "In my flesh dewlleth NO GOOD THING." "In the flesh no man can please God." It is in Christ that the Father is well-pleased; and only in Christ can He love, accept, and be pleased with me. I did not come to Christ on the basis of my works, nor am I kept in Christ on the basis of my works! I looked to Him THEN for ALL THINGS, and I look to Him NOW for ALL THINGS! Any look within will serve only to discourage and depress me; but looking to Christ, the author and finisher of my faith, will only encourage me, for He never changes. His gift of life and calling to grace is without change. The command, "Look unto Me and be ye saved," is not only the hope and strength of the seeking sinner, but it is the constant hope and strength of the believing sinner. I know my sins, but I rejoice in His grace. I know my weakness, but I rest in His strength. I know my emptiness, but I am complete in Him. "O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear," all because we do not cast our sins, our souls on Christ and LEAVE THEM THERE!
THE GOSPEL By Jack Shanks ...another gospel, which is not another.-Gal. 1: 6,7
The heading of this article is a testimony to the enmity of man against free grace. We must use a descriptive adjective before the word "gospel," because religious men have conjured up many gospels, which are not THE GOSPEL. I am with Paul in that I marvel at the Christ-dishonoring so-called gospels.
THE GOSPEL bears testimony to the utter ruin of man, all men. The sinner is a dead dog as far as spiritual things are concerned. He is a dim-witted imbecile in understanding of the things of God. If this is not made clear, then we have "another." (Gen. 6:5 etc.)
THE GOSPEL tells forth the great truth that this ruined, sinful creature must be rescued by the God of all grace. God chooses to pull some out of the fire without requiring anything from the objects of His mercy and grace. No conditions are set forth. If this is omitted, then we have "another." (2 Thess. 2:13 etc.)
THE GOSPEL tells of a victorious Savior who gave His life's blood to redeem all whom the Father had chosen before the world began. He was very particular toward His sheep and them only. (John 10:26 etc.) If He does not do all He came to do, then He is a failure. That IS "another."
THE GOSPEL tells forth the great truth that God is not a failure. When He sets about to save a sinner, that sinner finds Him irresistible, and is mighty happy to bow before His sovereign will. (John 6:37 etc.)
THE GOSPEL proclaims a lasting relationship. God Almighty does not use an eraser in the Book of Life. The promoters of "another gospel" must be in a terrible frenzy trying to keep their names in the Book. (John 5:24 etc.) I wouldn't be caught dead with another gospel, which is not another.
