In Search of Inward Peace?
Jim Byrd

I suspect that you are like me. There are times when I foolishly look within myself in search of some validation of spirituality, some bit of goodness, just a little glimmer of holiness, anything that will give me hope that I am a child of God. But when I turn my attention inward, I discover I am infested with sin.

Everything I do has the slime and stench of corruption upon it. It is then that I throw up my hands in despair as did Paul in Romans 7:24, and exclaim, "O wretched man! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?" I have never found any joy, peace, assurance, or hope by looking within, have you? It is only as I look to Christ and His righteousness that my guilty conscience is quieted and I have peace within my heart that all is well between me and the holy God.

How astounding it is to know that the Lord views me in His Son and in Christ I have no sin. I am so grateful that my salvation is dependent upon Him. Paul realized that only in Christ Jesus are sinners justified before God so he answered his own question by saying, "I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 7:25).
