Beaverton Grace Bible Church celebrated Independence Day by exercising our free speech liberty at the Portland Jehovah's Witness regional conference. Praise God for a nation in which we can freely declare the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ publicly and privately. We were richly blessed to preach the Word on the steps of the convention center as hundreds of Jehovah's Witnesses made their way across the vast courtyard into the building. May God grant that the glory of Jesus Christ, FULLY GOD & FULLY MAN (not the Archangel Michael) would shine upon their hearts and minds unto salvation. I was blessed to have two gentleman Jehovah's Witnesses at my door last week to share their faith. Their zeal is commendable, but their ignorance of the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross is tragic. The Apostle Paul's heart for Israel comes to mind:
Rom 10:1-4 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
The interesting thing is that the Jehovah's Witnesses are keen on conversing over the Scriptures at the doorstep, but are not allowed to engage us in any way at the conference. When I say not allowed I mean literally not allowed. They have men appointed to watch over the thousands of attendees to make certain that they don't speak with us. If they should dare to stop and talk with us, one of the watchmen quickly marches out and steps between us to escort them away. They are very controlling. Their cultic Scripture twisting doctrines won't stand the scrutiny of the whole counsel of God. This necessitates their "don't accept any non JW literature" rule, and the apparent "don't talk with anyone who has actually read the Bible" rule. Another oddity is that on the doorstep they are always very loving, but at the conference they show no love or concern for our souls. When they do speak it is usually very caustic. It would appear that those who possess an understanding of the true Gospel and have a zeal to share it similar to their own zeal, are too dangerous to love or converse with. We love them anyway and will simply press on with one sided (preaching) conversations.
Matt 10:24-33 24 "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household! 26 Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.
27"Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
Will we joyfully obey Christ in confessing Him and His Gospel before men, or will we be outdone by the cults' zealous ignorance for a false christ and a false gospel? Will the Lord Jesus CONFESS US before God the Father, IF we don't CONFESS HIM before men? Did Jesus call you and I to a life of ease, or a life of denying self and taking up the cross?
Mark 8:34-38 When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, "Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."
