Vs5 — "Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man."
God is the Savior of sinners. He takes people who ought to be in hell, and gives us heaven. He delivers us from Satan, and bondage to sin. This is the message of the Bible. Luke 24:27, "Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures."
(If we have the KEY OF INTERPRETATION, then we have all things. We know how the Apostles used scripture. Use this key, and get an understanding. Salvation is preached.)
God takes us from sin's degradation to victory. We triumph over ourselves, and subdue our lusts. He delivers us from guilt, shame, and fear. He gives us meaningful lives, and the joy of his Spirit.
Come and see what the Lord has done. It is marvelous!
Secondly, he didn't let us fall back into sin.
Psalm 66:9 — "who has kept our soul among the living and has not let our feet slip."
He's kept us persevering. It might look as if we are failing, or even lost [Acts 20:9-10]. We've also been greatly tempted. He, however, held onto us, and he didn't lose one, except the son of destruction [John 17:12]. He prayed for us particularly and savingly. Luke 22:32, "but I have prayed for you that your own faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” He gives us restraining and recovering grace. He keeps us from falling away. Jude 1:24-25, "Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time and now and forever."
Praise is due to him. Power and glory are his. It is not us, but Christ and God, who has brought the fruit. Psalms 115:1, "Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory because of your lovingkindness, because of your truth."
He made us to differ, and all that we do - every bit of striving with tears - is grace to us specially. Colossians 1:29 - "I labor for this, striving with his strength that works powerfully in me." We take credit for nothing.
Let our hearts be humble, and glad. God will do the same for others. Preach the word with no additions of self.
Thirdly, I will be thankful.
Psalm 66:13-15 — "I will come into your house with burnt offerings; I will perform my vows to you, that which my lips uttered and my mouth promised when I was in trouble. I will offer to you burnt offerings of fattened animals, with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams; I will make an offering of bulls and goats."
I won't forget what he's done. I'll remember my vows, and pay with thanksgiving. I'll return, and give him glory [Luke 17:15-18].
CH Spurgeon, said, "You never spent a happy hour alone in private prayer, holding privileged communion with God, when you did not feel constrained to say, 'Lord, show me what You would have me do.'"
The forgiveness of sins compels us to a life of devotion. Communion with God in his goodness makes us forsake all. If God's loved us, and we feel the power, then we show it. Our thankfulness produces clean living, matched with the fear of going backward. We've tasted the rod, and now we cherish freedom. Psalm 66:10-12 — "For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried. You brought us into the net; you laid a crushing burden on our backs; you let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance."
Pay your vows. Do something for Jesus. Be extravagant!
