"So they went into the ark to Noah, by twos of all flesh in which was the breath of life. Those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and the Lord closed it behind him." vs15-16 God is fearsome, and only Noah was spared. He brought a flood upon the ungodly, because he hates iniquity. Injustice provokes his wrath, but obedience gets his mercy. Fear this great God, and do what he says.
First, they entered the ark. They did not mock his warnings. Noah believed God and moved with fear. They did not think that salvation was elsewhere. They recognized that they needed it.
Oh, do not stiffen your neck, as if God won't punish. He's proven himself already. Wrath is coming, when Jesus returns. Hell is already kindled. The fire will burn for all eternity upon everyone without Christ. Oh, be wise!
Secondly, they entered as God commanded, because God's word is good. He speaks safety and peace. He's not a joy stealer but a giver. Look at eternal heaven and the forgiveness of sins. Look at God's good character.
If we hearken, it will be well with us. If we listen, we will live. No evil will overtake us. There'll be none of God's vengeance.
Thirdly, the Lord shut them in. They were safe. Not one raindrop touched them. They exited the ark on dry ground [Gen 8:13]. Condemnation is over for everyone who trusts Christ. He was punished for us.
There's safety in Christ and the guarantee of eternal life. There are covenant mercies and power for obedience. There's absolute security and joyful assurance. God protects you, rather than working against. There's help to persevere.
Only trust him, and obey his gospel. He's serious about sin.
Finally, Noah warns us. Fear God, and enter his safety!
