Jesus...a very significant name because it is GOD who gives His Son this name. God names Him not as just a label but names Him to His essence.
Meaning: The question is not is Jesus the Son of God? It is not a question at all but a matter of faith. Jesus IS the Son of God! In scripture God even expounds what we need to know about Him. He is born and then we read about Him 30 years later by the Jordan river. The only concern is salvation and in His rich significance rather than the historical Jesus of Nazareth. he is called Jesus because He will save His people from their sins! It means "Jehovah saves" in the two Hebrew words.
Significance: When God names He speaks to the very essence of what He names. Abram to Abraham, Jacob to Israel for example. God speaks to the essence of His Son and PURPOSEFULLY and with purpose. Jesus is the "Called One" whereby many brothers and sisters are called to glory. His name encompasses ALL of history. God's own good purpose moves Him to call and when He calls Jesus He calls you and I. He calls Jesus for the salvation of His church which is the very essence of His name! The old testament typology points to this as Joshua shows the fullness of time and the completion of the promise. When God calls Jesus His people WILL be saved and His purpose is accomplished! This is the "golden chain" of salvation. He calls us, justifies us, and glorifies those whom He calls. Salvation by Christ and Him crucified which is the very heartbeat of the ENTIRE Gospel!
Effect: You are either standing in Christ with complete salvation or you have NO salvation. The God who calls His Son Jesus is the same God that calls you and I through the Gospel and we are though grace and mercy saved eternally!
Why is this so important? Because the God who calls His Son Jesus is the same God who effectively calls you and I to eternal salvation. Is there any sweeter name?
