A good church keeps abreast with the times.

The times we live in now are characterized by a sensitivity to the classes of humanity. There are rich and poor and a number of colors. These factions in your church are aware of the injustices that the outside world talks about. Your leaders must not ignore these injustices, but indeed speak often of them from the pulpit, tying them to this or that Scripture.

Current news should be a part of every sermon. Racism does exist, and to ignore it is to be culturally irrelevant. Create study groups that will meet through the week to replace the less relevant Bible studies that church folks used to enjoy.

Let the Bible come alive again as a solution to the racist clashes within your church. Let the Scriptures be seen as a way to address cultural issues, and your Bible studies will grow exponentially.

The downside, if there is one, may be that strife may arise between the various ethnic groups. Speaking of these racial things will bring to the surface wounds of the past. Forgiveness that had once been offered will now seem to be erased. "Yes, they have hurt me", will be the message arising in many a heart.

But then, did not Jesus promise a sword amongst us, and not peace. When we are a woke church we enter into the reality of the human experience.
