Step 5 in that successful church plant: Entertain the children!

Separate Children from their Families.

Though it is not a pleasant thought, it is true that many children will follow in the ways of their parents. The deadness we see throughout the church world is fostered in part by children and parents being together in church.

In many nations to this day, children are forced to sit in long church services with their family, with no water, no junk food, no animated cartoons, no games, no competition. Unthinkable, yes? We must continue the trend of separating parents and children for those special moments on Sunday or whenever the church comes together.

Let the children see church as a fun thing, something for their childish natures to look forward to. Let them have a feeling of being at the boys’ or girls’ club, or an after-school program, where entertainment is king.

If Bible stories are a part of the agenda, be sure that there is absolutely nothing of a negative nature. Do not mention crosses or suffering. Children with these negative impressions may go home and share their feelings with Mom and Dad, and merciful parents may remove them from your care.

Remember that “feeling good” is the goal of each Sunday’s activities.

We had no junior church in my day. Somehow I made it. I confess there were a lot of fun-filled programs for us, and perhaps that kept my attendance faithful. But I don't think so. I believe the child or adult who is being called of God is going to be in church no matter what. Using carnal methods to achieve spiritual ends can never be God's way. I wonder what keeps the persecuted church so faithful?
