Here we see some of the most sobering words found in the Bible. Here we see the destiny of those who refuse to heed the call and respond positively to Wisdom's call. The fool is like the child who refuses to take their medicine. As a result, they perish. The fool hates knowledge and refuses to live in the fear of the Lord.
What is the outcome when a person refuses to heed the call of wisdom? The text teaches us that God will laugh at them. God says - I will mock the fool. The fool has been laughing and mocking righteousness and purity, but the text tells us God gets the last laugh. We don't typically think of God as a laughing God, but the Bible clearly teaches that He laughs at the wicked (Psalm 2, Psalm 37, Psalm 59). The Triune God of the Scripture does not wring His hands over what to do with the foolish and wicked. The Bible teaches us that He laughs at them (not in a joking way, but in derision).
This is a dreadful thought to consider, but the Bible teaches that there comes a point in time when Wisdom will stop calling out to the fool. The consequences of despising wisdom are serious. The fool who refuses to respond to wisdom's call will experience calamity. Choose wisdom and experience the blessings and security that comes with heeding her call.
