“For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.” vs10
When we enter God’s rest, we cease from our works and rely upon Christ. We trust God’s will, not our own, when He says, “Go.” We trust Christ’s righteousness, not our own, as we seek God’s help. We trust the Spirit’s power, not our ability, as we stand before our foes. This is the rest of the gospel, and it is the promised privilege of every saint.
In the Old Testament, they observed the Sabbath, which points to faith in Christ. The real NOT WORKING is only believing, as Paul says,
“But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputed righteousness apart from works.” ~ Rom 4:5-6
We don’t work for salvation. He gives it to us. We don’t work ourselves into a spiritual frenzy. He gives us worship free of charge by coming down to us poor sinners and giving us grace for our troubles, mercy for our misery, and salvation for our sins.
Do not fear that not working won’t do you good.
Not working is how you become righteous, and it is how you become powerful, being strengthened in His might [Eph 6:10].
