You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace.Song of Solomon 4:9
When we see the sinless perfection and supreme majesty of the Lord Jesus Christ as holy and righteous Man, if we are honest with ourselves, we recognize we do not live up to the minimum standards God has established for His creation. Yet, when we recognize Christ’s love for His beloved bride, you and me whom He has redeemed with His atoning death and His precious blood, His amazing grace abounds to us. What delights we have in meditations upon Christ’s view of us and His heart for us, sinners whom He has saved. The Lord Jesus is not blind. He sees us through His precious eyes of grace and love. His righteousness imputed unto us is beautiful (v1), as is our love for Him (v10). You and I have captivated our Lord’s heart (v9a). Each time we look upon Him, in the Scriptures, by a meditation morning or evening, a passing thought throughout our day, in prayers of supplication, thanksgiving or intercessions, when we see His face in one another, when we consider His majesty in a weekly message, Christ’s heart is captivated by our attention (v9b). When we, by God’s grace, adorn our lives with a single good work for God’s glory and Christ’s exaltation, again, our beloved Bridegroom is captivated in heart (v9c). With such love for us, our Beloved Lord and King stirs the Holy Spirit to minister as a majestic refreshment from the throne of grace (north wind, v16a); and also blesses us by His sovereign providence through the elements of our earthly sojourn (south wind, v16b). Oh, what intimate and lofty love dwells in the heart of our Savior for you and me!
“You have captivated My heart,” The King says to His bride; His precious love He doth impart, In beauty, we abide.
