Spring is here! Last Saturday I sent my oldest boy out to rototill the garden. When he was finished, he and I started to hoe an area where we were going to put in onions. It was then that I saw a bunch of fur. I felt sick. I knew it was fur used in a nest a nest where my son had just run the rototiller. I tried to console myself that it was probably a mouse nest not cute little bunnies. It was too late to do anything so we hoed and were on the ground when .... "Mom, the ground is moving!" Mice make me squeal like a school girl so I braced myself. He and I stared at this tiny movement under the soil. Mouse or bunny??? We couldn't decide whether to dig a little bit and find out what it is or leave it be. We ended up not moving the soil. I put the fur that I found and some straw from the strawberry patch on top of the soil and we left. Now we had run a rototiller, we walked all over the area, and we dug with a hoe! Sunday after morning church we went in the garden to see. We could see an indent in the soil where the critters had been. I took a stick and gently lifted the straw. There we saw 4 adorable bunnies all huddled up. I dropped the straw and we left them alone. Now what? What if the mother had abandoned them? They were little enough they wouldn't survive alone. I looked it up on my phone. Mother rabbits feed their young only twice - dusk and dawn. She doesn't stay with them but she won't abandon them either. Those little bunnies huddled under the straw and waited. They weren't scurrying all over the garden in fear their mother had left them. God created them to be still and wait. If all you listen to is the news it would be easy to sink into despair and fear. God tells me in His Word that He cares for common sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31 "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." If you look inward, it will always lead to dark places. Look UPWARD! God is not an excuse to go to church on Easter and Christmas. He is the only true God. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever present in every place, He is the holy Judge, and He is the loving Father for all those who will put their faith in His saving grace. II Corinthians 6:18 "And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Friend do you feel like the bunnies must have felt - run over, stumped on, and buried. Yet as God took care of those little bunnies, He has promised to do the same for us ... Deuteronomy 31:6,8 "Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.8 And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed." Area you afraid? Do you feel abandoned? Please listen to the sermon preached on 3/15/2020 "God's Word, the Believer, and Coronavirus". If you need someone to pray with please feel free to call the church.
