Raise your hand if you've flown recently? At Christmas we flew out to see our son. Sure enough the skirt I wore triggered the security sensor so I had the delightful experience of standing in front of everyone while I was patted down. Simply delightful .. not. Don't get me wrong. I realize security is essential and I wasn't upset that they were doing their job. I made a mental note ... do NOT wear that skirt while traveling. Which brings me to last week, once again heading we were heading to the airport. Buddy this time I was ready! I wore a skirt that had no metal - no buttons, no zippers, NOTHING. I am ready for security, and I walked confidently up to it. I stood inside the tube that looks like they designed it off an episode of Star Trek came out and was met by a security agent. It then dawned on me. Shoes were off, skirt was great, but the sweater I wore had metal buttons. As soon as I walked out of the machine, I realized my mistake. I knew my mistake, but that didn't stop the consequence. They did not care that I had forgotten about the buttons; I had to be patted down. I had consequences for my mistake. Pastor Chris preached a sermon "From the Power of Satan to God" on 2/9/2020 am service. God sends His message to the unsaved ... Acts 26:18 "To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me." For the unbeliever who sadly thinks his works will save him, eternal punishment awaits. His sincerity does not carry any merit. I knew it was my sweater that triggered the detector but the consequence was the same. For the Christian who walks contrary to God's Word, he too faces punishment in the form of God's chastisement. I can make feeble excuses why I feel that a particular verse doesn't apply to me. However, the standard I use to base my decision on must be God's Word not society or emotion. The power of Satan is strong; but God is omnipotent. Salvation and the Christian life is 100% God and 0% my effort or opinion. God wants to welcome the unbeliver into His family. God wants the believer to walk with complete dependence on Him. Are you living as if all is well because your "skirt has no buttons" but all the while you forget the "sweater"? Use God's Word as your security device to check your actions and motives.
