“For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places. He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.” Psalm 135:5-6
Feed The Sheep
Our Lord instructed Peter to feed the sheep (John 21:15-17). If we are in love with our Lord Jesus Christ, we must do the same thing. Since God has placed such high preeminence and vast importance on the preaching of the gospel, God help us to be faithful in doing so and supporting the ministry where the gospel of God's sovereign grace is preached. Let us all insist that when we meet together, the gospel must be preached (I Cor. 9:16). "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto them which are saved it is the power of God" (I Cor. 1:18).
"DISOBEDIENCE" - "OBEDIENCE"
“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous” (Rom. 5:19).
In Rom. 5:19 Paul describes to us the TERRIBLY EFFECTUAL results of Adam's sinful disobedience: "Many were made sinners." This is an awful truth that thunders through this chapter and all the Word of God, “Sin hath reigned unto death." We had absolutely nothing to do with becoming a guilty sinner; we are born that way by nature; because of Adam's disobedience, we inherited all his sinful traits (Rom 5:12; Rom. 3:9-12).
Even so, by the faithful obedience of One, Jesus Christ, we see the WONDERFULLY EFFECTUAL results of His obedience: "Many shall be made righteous." Here is a glorious truth that also thunders through the scriptures, "Grace hath reigned through righteousness unto eternal life." We have absolutely nothing to do with becoming righteous. Our righteousness was totally earned by our Mediator, Jesus Christ, and freely and sovereignly imputed to us by His grace (Rom. 4:6-8). "Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound."
What A Saviour
Believer, what a Saviour God has provided for His people! The Almighty God (John 1:1), yet all tender Saviour and Shepherd (John 10:11)! How well fitted is He to be our Great High Priest (Heb. 2:17). How sufficient is He to supply our every need (Col. 2: 9-10). How complete His wisdom and grace to provide for us perfect atonement and full justification from all sin (Heb. 9:12). May God be pleased to give us a greater love, adoration, and reverence for our Saviour and Lord. We love to sing, "Hallelujah! what a Saviour, who can take a poor lost sinner, lift him from the miry clay, and set him free!"
BE OF GOOD CHEER
“Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me” (Acts 27:25).
There is nothing righteous about a gloomy, despondent, pessimistic attitude in a believer. In fact, these things are the opposite of righteousness. Those who honor God the most are those who walk before Him with a cheerful heart, full of joy, believing His precious word and rejoicing in His glorious gospel. Paul was in the most perplexing of circumstances, so far as outward evidence was concerned; all hope of being delivered from the raging sea was gone. Yet, he found cause to rejoice and reason to hope; "Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer; for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.”
Let me encourage you to be of "Good cheer." No matter what the day may hold, no matter how bleak the outcome may seem, no matter how severe the pain may be, no matter how hopeless the situation appears to be, "Be of good cheer." If you belong to Him in the eternal covenant of mercy, if you are purchased by His blood redemption, if you are called by His effectual grace, you have every reason to "Be of good cheer." Search the scripture and see if this is not true! "All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose" (Rom. 8:28). God said, "Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say rejoice" (Phil.4:4).
Our Lord told the man who was paralyzed, "Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee" (Matt. 9:2). He told His disciples who were tossed about in a violent storm upon the sea, "Be of good cheer; it is I be not afraid" (Matt. 14:27). He told the disciples on another occasion that they would have trouble; but He added, "Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world" (John 6:32-33).
Yes, my friend, our life is full of trouble, heartache, disappointment, and grief; but we still have abundant reason to "BE OF GOOD CHEER." THE LORD REIGNETH (Psalm 135:5-6; Isa. 52:7; Dan. 4:35).
