THE FAITH OF CHRIST
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” (Gal 2:16)
Salvation is wholly accomplished by the faith OF Christ. Righteousness was wrought by the faithfulness of Christ to obey the law as the representative of His people. Faith in Christ is given to God’s elect because Christ is faithful to give it. God’s people are kept because Christ is faithful to keep them. No part of salvation depends on the creature doing anything. Salvation from start to finish is based upon the faithfulness OF Christ.

Christ is the paramount object of our soul’s pursuit or our spiritual life will decline. It was Christ yesterday, and must be Christ today and Christ forever. It will not do to feed partly on Christ and partly on other things. As in the matter of life, it is Christ alone; so, in the matter of living, it must be Christ alone.

THERE IS ONLY ONE GOSPEL
My heart breaks as I watch people compromise the Gospel! The Gospel of the free and sovereign grace of Christ my Lord. The Gospel that gives Christ all the glory in salvation and excludes human boasting. The Gospel that exalts the electing love of the Father, the effectual redemption of the Son, and the irresistible grace of the Holy Spirit. This is the Gospel and where this is not preached, the Gospel of Christ is not preached! Call me bigoted, narrow, or cultist, if you will, but this is the only gospel that will save a sinner like me. I am captive to this Gospel! While many around us turn back, and while others criticize us for our stand, I must say with Martin Luther of old, “Here I stand, I can do no other!”By God’s grace I am willing to die for this Gospel, and say with the apostle Paul, “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the Gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24)

“Salvation is of the Lord.” The word “salvation” means one is in such a dire straight that another must do everything involved to save him. If I can contribute then I do not need salvation, I only need help. But sinners are dead in sins. We can do nothing to save ourselves; we cannot even contribute. Thankfully, salvation is of the Lord. The Lord does everything involved to save his people. The Father chose who he would save by free grace. The Son accomplished our redemption freeing us from the curse of the law, making us the righteousness of God in him. The Spirit gives each redeemed child all things that pertain to life and godliness. God which begins this work in his children shall continue it until each child is with him in glory. Even our presentation to God in that day will be of Christ who shall present us holy, unblameable, unreproveable in God’s sight.

I should never have found peace with God nor come to love the Lord at all if it had not been that I distinctly saw that He, Who knew no sin, was made sin for me that I may be made the righteousness of God in Him.
C. H. Spurgeon
