“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one
another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. (Eph 4:32)
God will show mercy to sinners “for Christ’s sake” because of who He is, and what He has done! Who is the Lord Jesus Christ? He is the KING of kings and LORD of lords. (1 Tim. 6:15) He is the rightful owner of the throne of heaven. (Heb. 1:8) A sinner pleading mercy from God “for Christ’s sake” is pleading His favor for the sake of the highest office in glory! Who is the Lord Jesus Christ? He is the Dearly Beloved of the Father. (Matt. 3:17) For a sinner to plead mercy from the Father for the sake of His name is to plead the sweetest name the Father could ever hear; the only name that He delights in! (Acts 4:12) What has the Lord Jesus Christ done? He finished the work that His Father gave Him to do. (John 17:4) What was that work? It was that every sinner that the Father gave to Christ to pay that sinner’s sin debt and wash that sinner clean in His own blood, He should lose not one of them, but should raise every single one of them up at the last day! (John 6:39)
