"Providence" Matthew 6:24ff & L.D. 10 This Lord's day in the catechism is most precious as it is speaking to us as far as we and our needs are concerned. Here doctrine is LIFE and here is a case in point! The child of God in all that surrounds him here below is founded nevertheless in the bedrock of God's eternal counsel and hand. This is an addition to the previous Lord's day as God's eternal counsel is for our good and works towards our eternal salvation!
The meaning or definition of providence is "the almighty power of God whereby He upholds and governs all things!" The dictionary says it means to provide beforehand, but God does not make adjustments as thing happen. This world continues to exist by GOD'S hand and HIS workings (upholds) and He also continues to govern it! (Counsel.) Psalm 73 speaks of how we are guided meticulously until glory. It permeates God's entire universe.....and He upholds, governs, and meanders ALL things to HIS WILL. That is providence! "I the Lord do all these things!"
The scope is quite amazing. These things come from the heart of the Almighty God and work for His glory and our eternal salvation even as we deal with a "speck" of time in our lifetime till all things come to an end in final glory. The life of the child of God is not always "a bed of roses" and we ask ourselves are these things from God? Like Joseph as an example and father Jacob as he stated "and all these things are against me." It seems as if He wrings us and His people out while the world around us prosper and increase.....but God ALWAYS guides and directs us. You and me! Sometimes we pray that things are taken away and are changed and for Him to give us "prosperity," but His grace is always there and always sufficient through them and they are for His glory and our salvation. He NEVER leaves us and is ALWAYS with us. Nothing comes by chance but ALL come from His Fatherly hand!
It is for our profit. Every gift from God is for His glory and our salvation and for our profit. Be assured God makes NO mistakes! Nothing by chance or accident....but all for His glory and in His control and "all is well" as He is able and willing to do it and we can NOT go wrong as children of God. No matter how wrong it seems, how distasteful it is...it is all for our good....sent from God for our sake as we learn patience.
We thank the Lord our God or course that we can go to Him and that we have nothing to fear. Trust! Just TRUST the Lord! It will be for our profit.....and I can assure you....if you don't see it in this life...you and I WILL see it in our life to come in glory!
TRUST!
