"Defense against Sin" Psalm 119:11 & Ephesians 6:10ff
Psalm 119 is amazing...not just for its content, but for its content, subject matter, and its structure. It all addresses the Word of God which is an iatrical part of our lives as it is the rule of ALL faith and ALL living! Our text is realistic and understands sin encroaches our sanctified lives and is a reality n our lives that we need to face as we bury the Word of God in our hearts as a defense.
We find the personal pronoun in our text and realize that this is a confession. How can we keep our lives pure is a question posed here! We are the redeemed children of God who sit in the heavenly, yet we operate in this flesh and are in the world around us and have to deal with it each and every day. The devil is always there with all of us and this world is rotten through and through. This world we live in is our challenge and battle of faith. The world, our flesh, and the devil around us. The sword of the Spirit or Word of God is what our text is speaking of. We come to a sanctified life as He has redeemed us and "It is written..." the Word of God trumps EVERYTHING else! It is the ONLY weapon and one alone! It seems insignificant to the world (and maybe us at times) but it IS the ONLY weapon. Not the flesh, the prevailing wind of our time...but the UNCHANGING Word of God that charts our entire lives as it is PRINCIPAL! It reproves. It strengthens. It corrects me!
That Word I will hide in my heart. To the pulpit first and foremost as it is spoken to us and faithfully preached where we attend (Lord's day 12 as He rules us by His Word and Spirit.) We cannot expect the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives without His WORD...and we must hide it in our hearts from where ALL the issues of life come from and with the Word of God right next to it we are led with the Holy Spirit as it governs our lives amidst great tempataion.
There is a result. The text is in negative form as it presents the questions. The first result is that I keep myself from great sin! We live in that sinful world and see it in its "end times." Corruption is rapidly increasing around us. One only has to look around them to see such corruption and often does not have to look very far. But...secondly...we will walk in a sanctified life amidst this world. You will see others around depart, but the Word of God never will mislead.
The Word of God tells us to walk therein that we may be kept from sin and walk a sanctified life that we may be BLEST! What else can give you such a guarantee in this life?
