Today’s Scripture passage is probably the most well-known verse in the Bible. The reference is often seen at sporting events or on an athlete’s eye black. It is safe to say that this verse has been translated into more languages than any other verse.

Yet for such an important verse, it is easy for us to rush through it and not take the time to really grasp the importance of what this verse tells us. Over the next few weeks, I want to break this verse down into thirteen things that can be considered the greatest.

The first is “For God…” - the Greatest One. The God that sent His only Son to die is the One Who will never diminish in His greatness. Professional athletes work their entire lives, training day in and day out to maximize their ability, strength, and skill, but eventually their bodies wear out. The most skilled athlete is but a tiny ant compared to the Greatest One.

The Greatest One will never diminish. He has no beginning and will have no end. He has no need to work out or exercise, and He is still greater than all. He will never fade. He will never get old and feeble.

In spite of all His greatness, He knows you. He knows your name, your cares, your worries, and your troubles. The Greatest One longs to be your Savior and to work in your life on a daily basis.
