Don't Cuddle with Pets Sins - Dr. James A. Scudder

Today's Scripture: Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13:13-14

Children grow up with teddy bears and often figure real bears must be just as cute. In 1990, two boys scaled the fence at the Bronx Zoo in New York City and went into the polar bear compound. The next day, they were found dead.

As cute and cuddly cubs, bears strike the perfect pose, decking the pages of animal picture books. But unfortunately, they don’t stay that way. In a matter of months, these adorable little bundles of fur mature into fierce carnivores capable of maiming or killing a man. These powerful animals were born with the instinct to kill. It’s part of their nature. Though powerless as cubs, they grow in strength until they can overpower their victims.

We think of pornography, murder, and rape as “big-time” sins. But those cute and cuddly “little” sins we excuse are just as worse, if not deadlier. Lying, stealing, cheating, jealousy, pride, and covetousness are sins we develop as children. But if we dismiss them as “cute,” they will soon grow in strength into uncontrollable monsters, ruining our lives and destroying our testimonies.

Sin kills. That’s its nature. Don’t allow it to “grow” in your life! Protect yourself from things that will bring you down. He who flirts with temptation is a fool.

Your pet sin can kill!

Devotional by Dr. James A. Scudder
