FREE FROM THE LAW

Every believer is free from the law. They are free from the demands of the law and the penalty of the law. The Lord Jesus Christ obeyed the law for every believer so they do not have to obey it in order to be righteous. Christ paid the penalty of the broken law for His people by dying as their substitute so they no longer owe a debt to God’s law. But that does not mean they are free to break God’s law as much as they want. Anyone who believes in Christ desires to obey God’s law, not because they have to obey the law in order to be righteous, but because they love God’s law. A child of God serves God out of the love of a child not out of the desire of a servant to earn something from a master.

BE THANKFUL

A sinner saved by grace should be known as a thankful person. We could not deserve God’s election but we can be thankful because “God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen he weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty” (I Cor. 1:27). We could not deserve the sacrifice of Christ but we can be thankful because “When we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.” (Rom. 5:6) and “God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). Thank God for salvation by grace!

WILL YOU HELP ME?

Yes, as your pastor, I desperately need your help. I’m not asking for something which is unimportant or optional, but something which is essential to the spiritual well-being of ourselves, our children and all who frequent this assembly. Nor am I asking for something which can be done by anyone and everyone, but is a privilege exclusive to you, the saints of God.

Brothers and Sisters, I am asking for your prayers. As you have graciously granted me many requests through the years, for which I am thankful, I earnestly implore you to grant me this request. For your sakes and for mine, don’t permit me to stand before you from time to time without being uplifted before the throne of grace by your personal and united prayers. I am a mere man whom God has chosen to deal with the souls of men and the consequences are solemn and eternal. My message will either be a savor of life unto life, or of death unto death, “And who is sufficient for these things?”

I earnestly want my preaching to be profitable unto you and blessed to the salvation of your children. These spiritual blessings descend from heaven on the wings of pure grace, but God has chosen to disseminate this precious treasure through “earthen vessels.”

“Brethren, pray for us” (I Thessalonians 5:25).

Pastor Maurice Montgomery

This world’s religion teaches that salvation is obtained by man's response to God’s offer. It insists that walking an aisle, giving the preacher one’s hand, repeating the sinner's prayer, and by being baptized, God’s justice is now satisfied. But doesn’t this delusion do nothing more but scream, works, works, works? Who gets the glory in such a so-called salvation, man or God? According to the Scriptures, when a sinner is called out of spiritual darkness, he then counts all former confidences as loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus his Lord (Philippians 3:8), he now worships God in the Spirit, rejoices in Christ Jesus, has no confidence in the flesh (Philippians 3:3) and joyfully confesses, Salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 2:9).

Pastor Marvin Stalnaker
