Having discussed marriage and the scriptural values in regard to the world, in regards to our family life previously, we see that society shows degenerative family lives and we too must be concerned with that. God speaks to His angels and entertains Abraham and talks about the destruction of Sodom with Lot (righteous) within the city? What does happen to us and our children? The church? God tells the angels "why should I hide anything from Abraham? So also, He does not hide Himself from us!

God speaks through the angels. (Vs. 17) God reasons as to why He would keep His doings hid from Abraham. God reiterates His promise of the covenant, but also comes to destroy Sodom with a righteous man in it. Will the Lord destroy the Church with such an ungodly world? We have NOTHING to worry about. The Lord knows how to deliver His people in His own way even though we don't. And He makes us privy to His ways. The knowledge of God is the heart of this text and His covenant of grace. God KNOWS Abraham (in Christ) which is the knowledge of salvation. He sees him in glory, in his pilgrims journey, in his entire life, and in His eternal counsel. And He knows him and his heart!

You literally read here that God has chosen Abraham and therefore he will be spared. God would bless him into the eternity of heaven as his faith was rooted in that KNOWLEDGE of God. (As we see in baptism- a sign and seal that we have an eternal covenant with God in Christ.) In a covenant there are two parts. We are obliged to Him and we lead a new and holy life! God knows that Abraham will command his children (Christian home) amid all the influences of the world. We too better be able to SHUT it OUT! And have reprieve! We have pressures and a huge lack of time. Do we have time for our children? To set priorities that really matter in our life? Especially the calling to inculcate our children with ETERNAL glories!!! Fathers will have to answer for this as heads of their homes one day! And with his wife, we must be able to command our children (not be their "buddies.") We have to be able to tell them this is RIGHT, this is WRONG, this is GODLY, this is Ungodly! And our children should not have a question later in life on what is right and proper or what is wrong and improper having been taught it by us as parents! By us!!! Stand fast and firm even when your teenagers know "better than you."

Does the Lord find our family right here? Important things that deal with ETERNAL glory! We ARE the link that God uses for a Godly seed. The purpose clause...the Lord KNOWS Abraham and sustains him to bring about His purpose. To be a God to him through generations...even to our generation as He takes us into glory to live with Him! He does that through weakest parents as He did with Abraham.

This is why He presses the baptism vows to us. We say "who are we? Are we not worthy to do these things? But....He gives us the inheritance incorruptible to do these very things and teach our children. ...HIS children!
