The Psalmist in Psalm 123:2-4 has assumed the role of a servant. He is not giving orders, nor making decisions, nor overseeing others, but is merely looking unto the Master for direction. He is watching and waiting on the Master to move. If the Master gives no instructions, the servant will remain still, and focused. In this psalm he is not given any instructions from the Lord! In other words, he is wanting to serve, but God does not give him anything to do! There are too many Christians today who truly have a heart to do something for God, but their unwise zeal is acting independent of God. Instead of waiting on God to speak, they are doing, but not under the direction and instructions of the Master. They are both the servant and the master! This will never work with God! If someone within their own ability can create visible results be sure they will burn up at the judgment seat of Christ! The victorious Christian must wait on direction from his Master.
Dear Christian friend the victorious Christian life is dependent upon you waiting until you get orders from the Lord, and you may have to wait a while! To become impatient, and act independent of Him is to suffer spiritual defeat!!
